IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE

My Mom’s birthday was just a few days ago and I’ve been thinking of her a lot. She died 40 years ago when she was 61.  Her life cut shorter by a terrible death from ovarian cancer.

We had a pretty rocky relationship while I was growing up (more later in other blogs), but when I became a mom, we became somewhat closer. During the last 3 years of her life I was the one who was her primary caregiver. She didn’t want anyone else taking care of her and I wanted to be there for her. The reason I am posting this is because toward the end of her life she said how life goes by in the blink of an eye.  Lately I think of this so often, much more aware of this then when she first told me and it really didn’t have any impact on my thoughts. This awareness happens when we get older. Yesterday I went for my yearly gyno doctor’s appointment.  The office had photos of babies and kids that she had delivered. There was a photo of my grandson who was delivered by my previous doctor. And now next month he will be 19 and heading off to college. Looking around the waiting room and seeing couples and women with their pregnant belly’s, and remembering when I had my pregnant belly and my daughter-in-law had her pregnant belly, all of this put a smile on my face and I thought, IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE.
